Nose: Vivid, nutty. Custard, lemon curd, aniseed. A smoky hint like a distant bonfire. Toffee notes.
Palate: Sweet, quite smoky (cold ashes). Curd-like texture. Apricot jam. Very refreshing, delicate spiciness. With water, a spice explosion.
Finish: Slightly dry. Lovely citrus and walnut notes.
Comment: A light-bodied lovely outdoor dram, to serve with barbecued fish. Fresh like a sea-breeze.
Score: 8.3
Taster
Nose: Aromatic, fruity, flowery, vegetal (dock leaves?), appetising.
Palate: Biscuity, cracker-like. Edible seaweed. Interplay of sweetness, spicy mustard and vegetal dryness.
Finish: Peppery. Very salty.
Comment: Not the most peaty Clynelish I have tasted, but a lovely, distinctive whisky.
Score: 8.3
