Buffalo Trace

Cabernet Franc Aged After 8 Years

ABV 43%

Great nose but disappointing palate. It's not as simple as 'what's the right age',but at what point has the cask done its job. This has gone too far.

Taster

Nose: Glows in the glass. Dark fruits and creme brulee. Lots of polished oak, some pine and coconut, menthol and liqueur chocolates.

Palate: Heavily structured. Very tight and not allowing the spirit to speak. Any flavour has been replaced by grip.

Finish: Tannic.

Comment: Great nose but disappointing palate. It's not as simple as 'what's the right age',but at what point has the cask done its job. This has gone too far.

Score: 6.5

Taster

Nose: Intense, rich and elegant. Fruity. Damson plum. A touch of redcurrant. Subtle spiciness. Getting creamier when aerated. Not the usual aromas of a bourbon.

Palate: Sweet. Does not totally release the nose promises though.

Finish: Intense, with a clean oaky tonality.

Comment: The strange tawny colour suggests a wine finish. A bourbon dressed in unusual clothes.
