Nose: Molasses and treacle on baking paper. Redcurrant jelly and cranberries in chocolate. With water, manuka honey and leather school satchels.
Palate: Very grippy like dark chocolate with high cocoa content. A drying texture like walnut skins, ground mace and hazelnuts with little sweetness.
Finish: Quite drawing and dry with a long finish.
Comment: This begs for water, so add carefully. A wonderful nose.

Taster
Nose: Young and obviously sherry matured. Very smoky with huge dollops of treacle toffee, walnut shell, earthy spices and grippy tannins. Dilution emphasises the herbal notes.
Palate: Like the nose it is all about the Oloroso cask. Spotlessly clean but pretty one-dimensional. It's all drying wood tannins and alcohol when neat.
Finish: Mouth-watering and alcoholic with a leafy, herbal finish.
Comment: A young, sherry matured whisky. If you are looking for complexity and nuance then I'd pass on this.
Score: 8.6
