Nose: Big, muscular sherry character. Antique furniture. Cedar wood. Dates and figs. Damson plums. A touch of dark marmalade. Candied chestnut. Elegant intensity. Old oak.
Palate: Sweet at start then the alcohol bite tickles the tongue. A rich deep array of sherry flavours. Oak leads the way with style and panache.
Finish: Lingering, big oak, plenty of liquorice. Dried walnut. Chocolate and coffee beans.
Comment: Sherry shines through all the way with great elegance and complexity.
Score: 8.7
Taster
Nose: Dark chocolate, candied orange peel, heavily polished antique furniture, walnut praline and peach melba. Rich and thick.\r
Palate: A massive hit of damp oak, fresh pine, rich honey (royal jelly) and toasted brown bread. A huge and hot palate, which is tamed slightly with water, enhancing the sulphur notes.
Finish: Dry, with the peach melba and rich honey coming to the fore.
Comment: Probably a little too long in cask, but if seriously mature whisky is your bag, you'll love this.
Score: 8.8
