There is a theme running in these samples. Huge merits, but the tannic note takes the edge off slightly.
15 Years Old, PX Cask
Year of Bottling
Nose: A balancing act of luscious morning after bonfire smoke and powerful oak. Lacks some sweetness of previous samples. Resonant toffees wound out the bold aromas.
Palate: Oak bursts through, followed by a distinctive sweet cherry note, and slightly charred blood orange peel. Again, the dryness kicks in and places a death grip on the proceedings.
Finish: Tannic, with strong black tea and liquorice.
Comment: There is a theme running in these samples. Huge merits, but the tannic note takes the edge off slightly.
Nose: Tangy, even prickly. Earthy, with a meaty note, oxtail broth. Then opening on sweeter notes. Rich toffee. Dried apricots. A hint of cappuccino. Enticing.
Palate: Smooth at first then crisp like raw silk. Spicy. Ginger and chili. The alcohol bite is not as strong as on the nose. Gets astringent.
Finish: Dry, spicy, and astringent.
Comment: Another oaky character. With a charming nose and a less complex palate. Water brings out more of the astringency.
