Republic of Ireland
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: Relatively reticent. Vanilla and gentle spice.
Palate: Slick, lively spices and a hint of baked apples.
Finish: Tingling spices accompany quite tannic oak.
Comment: The tannic finish is somewhat overstated but still a good finish.
Nose: A gently winey nose at first, but I also detect some tropical scents, with mango especially.
Palate: Quite fiery initially, but then vanilla, toffee and dried fruits take over.
Finish: The finish is medium length, sweet and those dried fruit flavours linger longest.
Comment: A solid, drinkable, everyday whiskey, lacking a little complexity, but very acceptable.
