Interesting but doesn’t seem totally together. The smoke profile is lovely, though.

Nose: Gentle at first, with distant peat fires smouldering. Bacon being cooked downstairs, then soda bread fried in the remaining oil. Blood orange, dark chocolate.
Palate: Orange barley sugar sweets, caster sugar, strawberry jam and candied peel. Open log fire smoke, smouldering again with tree sap sweetness. A touch of vanilla too.
Finish: The peat smoke is central and dries out slowly with vanilla and cinnamon sweetness.
Comment: Interesting but doesn’t seem totally together. The smoke profile is lovely, though.

Taster
Nose: Shy. There’s curious peat smoke, some heather and what promises to be orchard fruit later on.
Palate: Far sweeter than the nose suggests, all icing sugar and lemon sherbets at first, before a sweet wood smoke wafts gently through. It all remains rather creamy and timid until the finish…
Finish: … when things become strangely spicy and dry with that lingering smoke.
Comment: A great number to share among friends, although it could benefit from a little longer in cask.
Score: 7.9
