Taster

Nose: Shy at first, but give it time and you get malt extract, golden syrup and grilled pineapple. Sweeter with caramel sauce, toffee-flavoured Angel Delight and Caramac bars.

Palate: That malt extract hits first, sweet and a little sticky, then comes the fruit. Layers of fruit salad, pineapple and white peaches. Strawberries with aged basalmic vinegar and cracked black pepper.

Finish: Lush and long with vanilla custard and fresh apple pie.

Comment: Plenty of punch with excellent spices kicking the tastebuds into life.

Score: 7.8

Taster

Nose: Quite closed, though there’s a crunchy maltiness that never quite gives way to the promising tropical fruit beneath. Given time it expands into Werther’s Original toffee candies and creamy porridge.

Palate: Syrupy sweet with fleshy papaya and mango coulis. Bitter lemon rind and peppery spice build in the middle alongside toasted oak chips and milk chocolate too.

Finish: Pencil shavings that have been dropped in the fruit salad.

Comment: Shy yet powerful. There are hints of greatness here.
