Nose: An abundance of fresh, young oak with syrup-soaked apricots. Plenty of honey and toasted hazelnuts. Some chilli prickle, Pontefract cakes and then more fruit, apples in honey and oranges in dark chocolate.
Palate: Plenty of spice at first. Oak grips with a little heat. Then comes caramelised fruits, pears and apples in honey, creamy avocado and black pepper.
Finish: Starts to sweeten up a little and all that fruit slowly gives way to a final kick of the spices.
Comment: A very lovely young whisky that has been well looked after.
Score: 9.1
Taster
Nose: Roasted chestnuts, honey-glazed ham, quince, and delicate sweet pastry with mincemeat. Cantaloupe and honeysuckle, a somewhat white wine-like character. A dollop of custard, too.
Palate: Creamy, with intense vanilla, candied peels, subtle clove and some more sweet shortcrust pastry.
Finish: Dries gently, with some green apple skin. Medium length.
Comment: A mince pie and custard, with a glass of sweet white wine on the side. Showing promise.
Score: 7.7
