Tasting Notes

Alwynne Gwilt

Taster

Nose: An odd nose, slightly sour, then caramel and pine. Vanilla with more floral notes as it opens. Needs time, becomes more gentle and appealing. After ten minutes though, still a sweaty pineapple note.

Palate: Fairly hot for the ABV. Lots of prickle at the front of the tongue. Pears, oak and caramel covered apples with some marzipan thrown in.

Finish: Medium length finish. Notes of apples come through. And slight, dry bitterness.

Comment: Slightly puzzling at first but grew on me as I let it air.

Score: 7

Taster

Nose: Crisp, minerally and fresh with underlying barley and orange blossom honey. Deep with hints of vanilla oak and later a touch of toasted toffee and herbs.

Palate: A little more of the toffeed oak so not as fresh as the nose would suggest. Gently honeyed with hints of apricot, barley and developing stony notes.

Finish: Good fresh finish, the alcohol and mineral notes cut through.

Comment: The nose displays a lovely freshness and though the rather dominant oak reigns that freshness in on the palate, it is still a thoroughly enjoyable aperitif style whisky.
