Texas Straight Bourbon Fifth Anniversary
No age statement
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: Warm sauna wood and strawberries in balsamic vinegar. Chocolate orange and star anise. With water it reminds me of brown sauce on chip paper –but pleasantly so!
Palate: Grippy tannins, like polished mahogany wardrobes. Prunes, raisins and cherry cola. With water Camp coffee, bitter chocolate and dried cigar leaf.
Finish: A ball breaker of a dram with chunky wood and a dry finish.
Comment: I love the pure intensity of aroma and flavour that packs a punch.
Nose: Powerful and spirit. Perfumy. Vetiver, cedarwood. Toffee, heady flowers (lilies). Enticing. Tobacco leaves, a hint of demerara sugar. Complex aromatic display.
Palate: Sweet at first then the alcohol bites and gives a fizzy sensation. Lots of toffee. Crème brûlée, coffee beans, liquorice.
Finish: Lingering, with a generous oaky character, liquorice and some dark chocolate.
Comment: A rich, complex bourbon. It needs a bit of taming because of the alcohol strength.Definitely a strong character.
