Tasting Notes

Taster

Nose: Seaside minerality, salt cracker biscuits and then the peat. Pink grapefruit acidity and melted brown sugar sweetness. Smoked cod loin wrapped in Parma ham.

Palate: The sweetness hits first. Orange juice with a lemon citrus tang. Grapefruit acidity is there too. Then the peat unfurls – turf block fires, burning hardwood logs and fresh laid tarmac.

Finish: Long and all that peat is glorious. Smoke keeps unravelling. There’s a little liquorice too.

Comment: Like swallowing a cloud of peat smoke.

Score: 9.1

Taster

Nose: Quiet and restrained. Doesn't open up much at all. Cooked red berries and milky coffee. Muted wafts of vanilla.

Palate: Coating, oily and altogether satisfying. Initially jammy toast. A little smokiness appears. It parts before too long, bringing wholegrain bread and tannins the dry a little.

Finish: That smoke perseveres long into the finish, moving away from sweetness into herbal mown lawns.

Comment: Smoke is pleasantly balancing to the other sweeter notes.
