Nose: An inviting nose of lemon sherbet and strawberry flavoured boiled sweets covered in icing sugar. (The ones your granny always had in the car) With water a delicate floral note of primrose and wine gums.
Palate: This was much heavier on the palate with sherry flavours roughing things up. Gingerbread and Jamaica loaf, lots of raisins. A hint of struck match. Then more malty, Horlicks and dry hay.
Finish: Chunky and then more nuttiness with water.
Comment: The nose is so much lighter than the taste – very one dimensional whisky.
Score: 7.2
Taster
Nose: Malty. Brown bread. Mellow and fruity. Cooked plums. Opening on sweet custard notes. Butterscotch. A good aromatic display. An earthy note. Distant peat.
Palate: Smooth but with a raw silk like mouthfeel. That crisp texture balances the sweetness. Cooked apples, toasted hazelnuts. Water brings out more fruit.
Finish: Dry, spicy. Crystallised ginger.
Comment: A good malty core, well structured with oak and fruit actively mingling.
Score: 7.8
