Taster

Nose: Big and oily but with a wild fruit character: rowanberry jelly, tomato purée, Madeira cake.

Palate: Drier than expected with a peppery kick. The waxiness is immediately there, clinging to the tongue while the smoke emerges half-way along. Great length and best with a drop of water.

Finish: Rich, clinging lightly smoked.

Comment: Elegant and highly individual. Takes no prisoners.

Score: 8

Taster

Nose: Christmas cake mix. All spice. There is also evidence of phenols, though not peat or smoke, more like oil paints or floor polish.

Palate: Some burnt buns, a rich underlying raisin toffee sweetness and a grassy peat.

Finish: Light rubberiness and some more of that peat, although in subtle quantities.

Comment: A big spirit tempered by a characterful cask. Very enjoyable.
