A good solid whisky, perfect for everyday use, I would be inclined to use soda water to liven it up with the bubbles.
Extra 13, Selectively Matured in Oloroso Sherry Casks
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: Closed off and reveals nothing at first. Give it a little time to open and there’s some sweetness, Mars Bar – caramel, nougat, honeycomb and milk chocolate as well.
Palate: All that sweetness opens up with vanilla sugar, maple syrup, salted caramel and hints of maturing cigar leaf.
Finish: Ends its conversation swiftly with sweetness and a grainy edge at the end.
Comment: A good solid whisky, perfect for everyday use, I would be inclined to use soda water to liven it up with the bubbles.
Nose: Shier than the last toilet roll in Tesco. After time there’s some caramel, vanilla and sandalwood here.
Palate: The fruit is just about present in overripe blueberries but this is a very oak-driven dram, with lots of buttery popcorn, vanilla and caramel.
Finish: Tunnocks caramel wafers.
Comment: Decent cask-driven blend though I’d have liked to see more of the spirit character to it.
