Nose: There is a sweaty element to this which really isn’t appealing. I once ran the Islay half marathon and I’m sure this is what my vest smelt like after.
Palate: The peat smoke works well with some of the sweeter notes hidden in this whisky, but the balance is all wrong. Grapefruit and smoke with nothing to balance it out.
Finish: Bitter and acidic.\n
Comment: Like a badly made smoked daiquiri.
Score: 6.5
Taster
Nose: Youthful, pungent and cardboardy with some earthy peat, lemon barley and brine. With time hints of sweet white fruit appears to attempt to add balance.
Palate: A little more barley and caramel oak, which to a certain extent covers the ‘distillery character,’ i.e. the cardboard notes! A touch of earthy peat and brine but the sweet barley notes are developing.\n
Finish: An enjoyable finish. Long with lingering sweet barley and slightly medicinal peat.\n
Comment: Instantly recognisable! I will say this has a bit more balancing sweetness than is the norm.
Score: 7.8
