Dewar Rattray Cask Collection

Ben Nevis Distillery

ABV 58.2%

An inactive cask hasn’t allowed the sulphur to be removed fully. Nothing wrong with the spirit, it’s just been bottled too early.

Tasting Notes

Dave Broom

Taster

Nose: Slightly raw. Turnip greens, cooking cabbage and draff. This vegetable sulphuriness dominates.

Palate: Clean with a little nutty note but the sulphur remains. Water improves it and suggests what this could have become. Grassy and sweet.

Finish: Sulphur.

Comment: An inactive cask hasn’t allowed the sulphur to be removed fully. Nothing wrong with the spirit, it’s just been bottled too early.

Score: 6.8

Taster

Nose: Initially very estery, almost solvent edge to it. Moves into the paint thinner side of things.

Palate: Sharp and bitter. Has a cloying red plum skin note that fills the mouth.

Finish: Lingering.

Comment: Not sure what is going on with this, but not my sort of thing.
