Duncan Taylor Rare Auld

ABV 59.3%

Wood speaks loud especially on the palate. The sherry influence is there. A finish or a full maturation? Hard to say but that whisky has definitely had a flirt with sherry.

Nose: Intense, tickling. Raisiny and resiny. Candied orange. Wood is expressive. Moss.

Palate: Sweet and smooth. Sherry influence. Dried fruit, a hint of praline. Earthy and oaky.

Finish: Medium, spicy, dried fruit. A bitter note.

Comment: Wood speaks loud especially on the palate. The sherry influence is there. A finish or a full maturation? Hard to say but that whisky has definitely had a flirt with sherry.

Taster

Nose: Greenish rim. Fragrant wood bark along with balsamic notes, autumn leaves, mushroom and tomato leaf.

Palate: The tomatoes move into puree. Nuts galore but becomes very firm and oaky.

Finish: Firm. Dry.

Comment: It’s an old spirit but there’s so much wood on show here that this could be a venerable rum or tequila.
