Glen Breton

Rare 19 Years Old, Single Malt Whisky

ABV 43%

Really enjoyable, a great aperitif and the apple notes almost reminded of a Calvados. Would have only preferred it to be a slightly higher ABV as think it needed a bit more oomph.

Taster

Nose: Fresh lemon curd, waxy but nice. Grapes, pine and something slightly darker like liquorice. Custard ice cream and toffee apple.

Palate: White mint, blackcurrant, honeydew, cinnamon and baked apple tart. A great mix of sweet, spicy and fresh. It’s a bit thicker but very refined overall.\n

Finish: Left with a note of Honey Nut Cheerios – a lovely, sweet grainy note.\n

Comment: Really enjoyable, a great aperitif and the apple notes almost reminded of a Calvados. Would have only preferred it to be a slightly higher ABV as think it needed a bit more oomph.

Taster

Nose: Initially the nose is a little muted due to the oils. Quite herbal with hints of dried barley husks, cinnamon sticks, coriander and toffee.

Palate: Very oily and toffeed with dried barley, heather and building herbaceous notes.\n

Finish: Good spicy finish with some tequilla-esque pepper and hints of milk chocolate.\n

Comment: This whisky shows a pleasant degree of maturity and is fuller bodied than what I would have expected, but it still displays some lovely Canadian graininess.
