Glenfarclas The Family Casks

Release III, 1952, 55 Years Old, Cask No. 1713, Plain Hogshead

ABV 47.3%

A tired cask ? An unusual taste. There is a dour note in this whisky which is not attractive but the salty flavour is appetising. I am puzzled!

Nose: Oily, nearly tarry. Odd smell of car oil, like entering a garage. Some biscuity\rnotes come through.

Palate: Crisp, dry. Earthy note. Watercress. Salty taste.

Finish: Liquorice, still dry but with a sweet note.

Comment: A tired cask ? An unusual taste. There is a dour note in this whisky which is not attractive but the salty flavour is appetising. I am puzzled!

Taster

Nose: Complex and deep. A mix of earthy fragrance with some sultana behind. Restrained, enigmatic and fascinating. Honeyed tones with earthiness.

Palate: Smoky start. Quite vinous in texture. Fruits and then a drying finish. Roasted nut. Physically coppery. Long, subtle and elemental.

Finish: Long with and elegant pure fruit and a hint of smoke.

Comment: Remarkable.
