Nose: As black as ink. Espresso, treacle and Jamaica ginger cake. Lightly sulphury/meaty. Masses of bitter chocolate with a slight smokiness.
Palate: Bitter chocolate, chicory and big tannins,A dried mint character is in there alongside the meaty/gravy browning notes. Water accentuates the tannins.
Finish: Tight. Cacao
Comment: A great vintage (!) but too long in cask for me.

Taster
Nose: Rich, concentrated. Very oaky. Tobacco, hickory. With a sour note. A hint of Marmite. Walnut stain.
Palate: Astringent, bitter. Like a very strong coffee and chicory extract. Very harsh.\rLeaves an unpleasant taste.
Finish: Exactly like above. Quite lingering.
Comment: The flavours are so masked by oak that you can't decide what type of whisky you are sampling. For me,can only be drunk as a medicine. But if you don't need it,better avoid it.
Score: 6.8
