Nose
Shades of violets and cloves with a lightly honeyed maltiness. The oak is commendably restrained for its age, though a little bourbony.
Palate
Big malt and honeycomb, lots of oak. That bourbon feel powers through with a toffee-treacle sweetness.
Finish
Long and oily. The oak gives a deep, drying vanilla intensity and some liquorice and chicory.
Comment
Convalmore was not the greatest malt when reasonably youthful. As a near 40 Years Old it has gained some tasty character, though most of it is of the bourbon variety.
