Nose: Heather and gorse flowers, oat cakes with goat’s cheese. There’s a menthol edge, a tin of chalky mints. Sweet William and apple blossom. Salami with fennel seeds. Manchego cheese. A faint metallic edge, wrapped in cord.
Palate: Gentle smoke notes with some salted butter, creamy and tangy. Glacé cherries. Rum and raisin ice cream.
Finish: Melon wrapped in Parma ham sprinkled with cinnamon powder. Slowly dries.
Comment: A great starting dram for an early 80s dinner party.
Score: 8.8
Taster
Nose: Floral and aromatic for an Island whisky with lavender oil, jasmine soap, freshly cut cucumbers and cardamom seeds. Wisps of sea salt chocolate and baked coconuts.
Palate: Nutty spices come to the forefront of the palate with roasted hazelnuts, cayenne pepper, hot sandalwood and barbequed charcoal. Dirty oil, polished mahogany and blackcurrant crumble.
Finish: Hot and peaty with an oily consistency.
Comment: A real tastebud boxer.
Score: 8.9
