Jameson

12 Years Old, Distillery Reserve (Midleton)

ABV 40%

Do you want liveliness (the regular 12) or elegant (the Distillery Reserve)? They have equal charms, and perhaps deserve similar scores, but I go for the former.

Tasting Notes

Michael Jackson

Taster

Nose: Sweet, oily, aromatic, perfumy.

Palate: Lightly creamy texture. Very creamy taste. Creamy toffee. More nuttiness. Like freshly-ground almonds.

Finish: Nutty. Slightly toasty. Touch of sherry.

Comment: Do you want liveliness (the regular 12) or elegant (the Distillery Reserve)? They have equal charms, and perhaps deserve similar scores, but I go for the former.

Jim Murray

Taster

Nose: Light and quite grainy with a distinctive pot-still sharpness injecting life.

Palate: The pot still makes and immediate impact but is very quickly pursued by some amazing sweet corn. The sweetest of all Irish whiskies.

Finish: Hints of coca of the grain; some dying embers of that grassy pot-still.

Comment: This amazingly light but extremely busy 12-year old is a one-off in the Jameson portfolio.
