Nose: Soft and gentle peat notes, distant bracken fires. Then sweetness comes through, vanilla ice cream sandwiches, wafers and sweet strawberry sauce.
Palate: Plenty of vanilla and hot buttered digestive biscuits, that smoke note is lurking, smoked chicken and some mayonnaise.
Finish: The smoke ramps up and disappears leaving a sweet fatty note of grilled bacon.
Comment: Eating ice cream while the moors burn away.
Score: 8.9
Taster
Nose: Takes time to open up. There’s raspberry gummies, wood smoke and hickory, a gentle medicinal character. Allspice and ginger cake.
Palate: Mouth-coating. Juicy fruit chews, iodine and smoked plums. A somewhat savoury biscuit note.
Finish: A little hot, but long and fruity with gentle wood smoke.
Comment: The wood is restrained and the palate is pleasantly spirit forward.
Score: 8
