Nose: Huge punch of alcohol at first that masks a lot, but in time there emerges a rich hot-buttered cornbread note, chilli-coated dried sweetcorn kernels and alcohol-soaked wood.
Palate: The grain elements hold sway at first, then this lovely spicy cinnamon note lifts, with cherry liqueur and vanilla flavours. Oak tannins grip with coconut macaroons and milk chocolate.
Finish: That chocolate and spice bursts.
Comment: A little water helps to open this out nicely and reveals there is plenty behind the alcohol to enjoy.

Taster
Nose: It’s tough to discern any aroma at first, but leave it to open (or add water) for fresh butter, cinnamon rolls drenched in icing, raisins, ginger nuts and grated nutmeg.
Palate: Buttered toast and burnt caramel with quite a lot of spice. With water it softens into soft serve ice cream, buttered corn on the cob, roasted chestnuts, more iced buns and a bag of trail mix.
Finish: Well-done white toast and a touch of rye spice too.
Comment: It demands patience, but give and ye shall receive.
Score: 8.9
