Nose: Nail varnish remover, almost verging on bubblegum, rich caramel drizzle, light vanilla pod, and peaches and cream. A little nutmeg too.
Palate: Really drying, then sweet waffles, sticky caramel sauce, sandalwood and hazelnut. Some rice pudding and toasted brioche in there too.
Finish: Warmth builds in the finish, leaving the toasted sweetness.
Comment: For the ABV, the flavours are really able to develop before the heat envelops and gives you that Kentucky hug.
Nose: Brambles and pencil shavings, sesame oil and old, varnished oak furniture. Glace cherry and almond – we’re in cherry Bakewell tart territory.
Palate: Medium bodied. Clove and nutmeg up front with cocoa powder and Branca Menta. Under it all is a solid tropical foundation of dried mango and pineapple too.
Finish: Medium-long. The Bakewell character fades slowly.
Comment: Remarkably delicate, considering the ABV. Well balanced and complex.
