Taster
Nose: Petrichor, chopped chives, and flower stems. A whiff of swimming pool. Underneath, fresh apricot flesh, white grape juice, elderflower and, with time, toffee.
Palate: Medium-full. Somewhat medicinal. Toffee sweetness builds, with hints of shredded wheat cereal. Pear drop and charcoal tablets. Black tea tannins gently dry things out.
Finish: Medium-long. Malted grains fade in and out, returning to the white grape note.
Comment: A solid ‘house pour’ Ileach.
Score: 7.8
Taster
Nose: Cigarette ash, barbecue coals, rendering beef fat, and a little charred lemon. Toasted marshmallow. Crystallised and roasted pineapple.
Palate: Light-medium. Sweet peat smoke wraps the tongue, with barbecued banana, peach and pineapple, well-done brown toast, and hints of pork and rosemary. Still a hint of toasted marshmallow sweetness, leaning into s’mores.
Finish: Long, with waves of charred fruit and smoke.
Comment: If there was ever an Islay malt made for hot, sunny days, this is it. Light and flavourful.
Score: 8.2
