Republic of Ireland
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: Delicate and immediately malty. A sound, slightly toffee grain presence. Not as smoky as a few years back, but salty for an Irish.
Palate: A complex maltiness - both grassy and intensely barley-rich - dominates. The oak is quite drying, though a hint of wild fruit offers some extra compexity.
Finish: Lightly spiced, malty with some vanilla from the grain.
Comment: Lacks depth: a simple but pleasant blend.
Nose: Lightly malty. Fudgy.
Palate: Light butter and toffee.
Finish: Crisp. Peanut brittle.
Comment: Pleasant but a little one-dimensional.
