Actually a massive improvement on the legendary 20 Years Old.
Pappy Van Winkle
23 Years Old, Family Reserve
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: A macho oaky, orangey nose hardly for the fainthearted. Honey and tannin combine effectively but over leathery and aged.
Palate: An enormous eruption of oak takes an uncompromising grip.
Finish: Bitter and dry though a thread of burnt honey comb and chocolate.
Comment: Actually a massive improvement on the legendary 20 Years Old.
Nose: Rich. Polished oak. A little underlying charred-oak character.
Palate: Raisins. Madeira cake. Vanilla.
Finish: Hard toffee. Drying into slight charcoal.
Comment: Even more age to handle, but it has wistful, nostalgic charm.
