From a sadly silent still: a great malt that is too good to chill, but wonderful with smoked salmon or scallops. Or, deservedly, caviar. You serve vodka? Shame on you!

Dave Broom

Taster

Nose: Intense and haughty. There's oils at work along with fresh bay leaf and an austere, flinty smokiness. Maritime.

Palate: Dry and austere initially but manages to coat the mouth leaving lingering smoke in every corner.

Finish: Long dry with some oiliness.

Comment: Takes time to get to know. One to sip.
