Nose: An abundance of berries in a hedgerow: black currants, raspberries, rose hips and brambles. Black Forest Gateaux and golden sultanas.
Palate: A fresh chilli heat, then more about sensation, flint, earthiness with a chalky, minty character. Some more savoury flavours of espresso coffee and coffee sponge cake. A hint of Iberico ham.
Finish: Spicy and drying.
Comment: This was like being coddled in a tweed blanket, warming and reassuring.

Nose: A nice smokiness greets the nostrils first, with an oily sweetness (golden syrup). The smoke continues to develop with oak shavings, chocolate and dark honey.
Palate: The smokiness develops a darker, more distinct sooty character, but is held in check with the sweet notes. It’s simple, but highly enjoyable.
Finish: Oily and dry, with a little fruit developing at the death.
Comment: Another characterful peated whisky. Nicely put together.
Score: 8.4
