Nose: Nose: oak and antique wardrobes. Heavy woolly coats. Then it's malty and the nuts return. Walnuts coated in dark chocolate.
Palate: Nutty edges keep going, roast chilli spices, then smoked chicken and bacon. Water eases the spice.
Finish: Heat remains. Water gives the sweetness of some dark chocolate.
Comment: The nose promised Narnia, but the palate takes you to frying bacon outside Tom Sawyer’s tent.
Score: 8.6
Taster
Nose: Black treacle and dark muscovado sugar, a hint of kipper smoke and toasted oats. Pastrami and elastic bands followed by the smell of petrichor moments before a thunderstorm breaks.
Palate: Much sweeter on the palate than the nose suggests: golden syrup, gingerbread men, ground ginger and nutmeg spice and then raisins. Very smooth for the ABV.
Finish: Long and sweet with ginger spice prickle.
Comment: Gingerbread in a bottle. Lovely.
Score: 8.7
