Nose: Earthy, plenty of leaf mulch, malted barley and wafts of peat smoke. Smoked sea salt with layers of chargrilled fruit building up, peaches and pineapple.
Palate: Plenty of smoke builds up, toffee apples and parkin cake on bonfire night. Dark treacle on a metal spoon. Fruits and a little wasabi spice prickle.
Finish: Short yet warming with that wasabi spice putting in an appearance. Peat smoke slowly dissipates.
Comment: Give it a little time to settle and there’s this stunning balance between oak, spirit and peat.

Taster
Nose: Smoky and salty, with aromas of grilled meaty fish, caramelised peaches and dried seaweed with the sweetness of mandarin flesh as well.
Palate: Again, surprisingly savoury and meaty with an oily mouthfeel. The sooty smoke and coastal saltiness are beautifully integrated, taking the limelight over shy dried fruit and a scattering of roasted nuts.
Finish: Smoky, salty and dry.
Comment: An almost Mediterranean character. Are you sure we’re in Speyside?
Score: 8.6
