Nose: Barley sugar and water cordial, a little lemon and caramel cough syrup. Malt extract, and then cinnamon and cumin spice. Baked oranges with brown sugar.
Palate: Alcohol prickle, then that baked orange tang and melting sugar note comes through. Honey roasted cashew nuts. Pineapple and mango slices.
Finish: Plenty of sweetness, water backs the alcohol off to reveal barley sugar sweetness. Starts to dry with the oak coming through.
Comment: Big boned and takes water to release sweet notes.
Score: 8.3
Taster
Nose: Sherry and lots of it. Toasted oak and some chocolate oranges. Strawberry jam with a prickle of cinnamon and cloves.
Palate: More of the spices, particularly cinnamon, before the orange note comes through again. Mulled wine, before a little chocolately coffee. Some toasted, savoury nuts round it off.
Finish: Sweet and drying. It's pretty lingering too.
Comment: Something a little different. Like a liquid chocolate orange at times and is bold with its flavours.
Score: 8
