Laphroaig Distillery
ABV 46%
The smoke is in balance, but maybe just lacks a little extra complexity from the wood to lift the score.

Nose: Highly phenolic. Big hit of tar and a menthol note that’s reminiscent of Vicks Vapo-rub. Light sweet pear in the centre. Quite salty.
Palate: Lightly fragrant and slightly herbal. Very clean.Fresh fish. Pleasant, then a drying peaty grist note runs through. Does not like water on the palate.
Finish: Oakcakes.
Comment: The smoke is in balance, but maybe just lacks a little extra complexity from the wood to lift the score.
Score: 7.7
Taster
Nose: Smoky, phenolic. Farm yard by the shore. Linseed oil. A grassy profile. Lemon balm. Nutmeg.
Palate: Smooth. Sweet, flattening at mid palate. Fennel.
Finish: Smoky, fading quite quickly.
Comment: A thin whisky. The cask has not been generous in building up the aromatic profile. Not unpleasant but lacks flesh.
Score: 7.3
