Nose: Immediate hit of vanilla fudge and clotted cream, milk chocolate caramel sweetness followed by soft leather and tobacco notes.
Palate: Dried fruits prevail here: fruit cake and Eccles cake with some toasted walnuts.
Finish: Fruit cake tannins are met by a hit of cinnamon and tobacco leaf spice.
Comment: An afternoon tea served in an old library.

Taster
Nose: Frazzles! Sulphury (good sulphur), salty and bacon-like, with a sweet maple glaze, fresh figs and a dollop of rich strawberry jam.
Palate: Waxy and sweet, with cooked cranberries, blackcurrants and prunes, plus a dollop of dark chocolate mousse. The stewed bramble fruits mingle with the meatiness seamlessly.
Finish: Soft barbeque smoke, pulled pork and, for dessert, some chocolate cheesecake.
Comment: Such a fun whisky and well integrated, although the sulphur may not be to everyone’s liking.
Score: 9
