Nose: Seriously nutty at first. Caramel coated and chilli-spiced peanuts and almonds. Fresh orange peel, and lots of nutmeg-laden vanilla custard.
Palate: Chilli spiced peanuts hit at first, then moving to more mellow malted milk biscuits and fig jam. Hints of freshly cut barley and almost a gentle smoke note. Drying tobacco leaves and some trail mix.
Finish: Wonderfully long and smooth, takes its time, warming with those chilli spices.
Comment: A serious rye for those moments when you need to take a moment.
Score: 8.8
Taster
Nose: With some patience it slowly releases notes of baked red apples, vanilla custard, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
Palate: Packing a punch, with freshly brewed coffee, apple and blackcurrant crumble, and flying saucer sweets. Sweetness moves into warming spices of ground turmeric.
Finish: Oily and buttery from the peanut butter notes, but there’s also a sherbet finish tingling away.
Comment: Well balanced for all the senses, for a slow mover.
Score: 8.5
