Tobermory

A rare chance to taste a malt that is not so much youthful as pre-pubescent. Really pleasant and full-flavoured for all that.

Tasting Notes

Jim Murray

Taster

Nose: Deliciously fresh and malty, almost green though aroma-wise, this sample had nothing like the peat promised on the label. However, there is a delicate peat smoke that is gristy and sweet.

Palate: Young and underripe and magnificently mouth-watering. The peatiness begins to make itself felt towards the middle. Simple but effective.

Finish: Gently smoked; further highly intense malt.

Comment: A rare chance to taste a malt that is not so much youthful as pre-pubescent. Really pleasant and full-flavoured for all that.

Score: 7.5

Taster

Nose: Light but definite touch of peat. Some sweetness.

Palate: Faint peat. Enjoyable interplay of malty, nutty, dryness and toffeeish, faintly minty, sweetness. Slightly weak in the middle, but recovers well.

Finish: Light, soft, becoming sweeter.

Comment: A surprising degree of continuity from the earlier vatted Tobermory, though this version has more individuality.
