Taster

Nose: Clear minerality – chalk specifically – with vanilla ice cream and charred wood. Sharp pomelo and yuzu, plus a touch of fizzy chew bars.

Palate: That classic end to a meal: charcoal-sprinkled vanilla ice cream, followed by a petit fours of rocks. Yuzu and lemon water peep through on this chalky-textured whisky.

Finish: That subtle smoke keeps wafting around with the chalk.

Comment: Variation on a vanilla theme, this time with added smoke.

Score: 7.5

Taster

Nose: Lemon, mint, thyme. Briny, with some peat at the ashier, coastal end of the scale. Anything pugnacious settles to reveal apricots, mango and pineapple.

Palate: Gentle smoke, again coastal, with brine, seaweed, slightly vegetative. The fruit is gentle too, with pineapple, green apples, some sourness followed by a creamy maltiness.

Finish: Long, warming and ashy, with citrus returning with grapefruit.

Comment: A laid-back islander. Something nicely elemental about it, though a little ponderous.
