Caol Ila Distillery
This independent bottler is starting to grab the attention. Again, a stunning Islay malt. Where are they finding the casks?
1984, 24 Years Old, Sea Smoke
Year of Bottling
Nose: Massive waft of coal smoke, lemon sole with garlic, light citrus, maybe lime all pretty irresistible.
Palate: Doesn't disappoint, rich and full with sooty coal smoke at first and then a delicious burst of blackcurrant and red fruits.
Finish: Fireworks as the fruits and smoke battle it out. Wonderful.
Comment: This independent bottler is starting to grab the attention. Again, a stunning Islay malt. Where are they finding the casks?
Nose: Grassy, smoky. Briny. Tar. In time, sweet vanilla notes. Oat biscuits.\rThen an animal note. Leather and horse sweat.
Palate: Crisp, clean. The palate delivers and the nose promises. Superb balance.\rMalt,tar,smoke,mint. Spices tease the tastebuds.
Finish: Long,rich,fresh and spicy.
Comment: A beautiful wintery outdoor dram. Reminiscent of Islay on a dricht (dull)\rday with the warming scent of peat fires.
