Nose: Sweet upfront with a little hit of alcohol-soaked wood, then there’s toasted pine nuts and trail mix before it turns all chocolatey.
Palate: Sweet again with barbecue sauce and a little horseradish spike. There’s toasted wood here too with a little clove and full cream butter.
Finish: All those spices promised on the palate explode and then slowly dry out.
Comment: Reminds me of the charred ends of a slow roasted ham, a delightful mix of sweet and spice.
Score: 8.5
Taster
Nose: Hay loft and cut meadow grasses. Gentle minerality, followed by coffee grounds and subtle cucumber. Fresh blueberry with vanilla, nutmeg and malt loaf bass notes. There’s almond butter and sage in the mix too.
Palate: Vanilla and more of that almond butter up front. Next comes peach-flavoured boiled sweets and granola - it’s all dried fruits and nuts with full-fat milk.
Finish: Medium length. Sweetness and orchard fruits linger.
Comment: Lots to like here and showing great promise.
Score: 7.9
